I would think carefully and hard before going to the police with the information that the kids have shared with me. Kids and the youth population donâ€
t share their heart with just anyone, therefore if I was going to share information with the police it would have to be information that are criminal offensive. However, due to a lot of police brutality that is going on with African American male and female individuals. I would be very careful and watchful with the information that I share with law enforcement. (Aspiration Ethics) Counselors are to evaluate oneâ€s personal behaviors and motivations and to realize that rules and regulations will be broken at times (Velasques 2015)
My intentions to do good in the community with the youth and having a bonding relationship with the local gang members are positive and helpful. I am always striving to do go to bring peace and unity with gang members and law enforcement. Such as community awareness meetings and rallies between gang members and law enforcement. Ethics are defined as behavior governed by a combination of personal, moral, legal and social standards of what is right and wrong (Velasques 2015).
My desire is always to implement change in my community with the youth population as well as kids. Kids and the youth are often getting killed through drive by shooting incidents. My personal belief is that it takes a village to raise a child. Therefore, to find out that a child was killed due to gang violence, I would tell law enforcement, if I found out who pulled the trigger and caused the death of the child. This may not have anything to do with the current kids that I am currently mentoring, however, kids talk and know a lot about what is going on in the community. Therefore, I would blow the whistle on the shooter. Unfortunately, those gang members are Juveniles, that are looking for acceptance from the streets and many of them donâ€t have fathers in the home.
If the kids are upset with me for telling the policeman what they shared with me concerning who killed the child in the driver by shooting. I would do my best to comfort them and let them know that there are times to share information with law enforcement and there are things that you could keep quiet about.
