Evidence-based practice (EBP) provides nurses with a method to use critically appraised and scientifically proven evidence for delivering quality health care to a specific population (Majid, et.al, 2011). The objective of this study was to explore nurses’ awareness of, knowledge of, and attitude toward EBP and factors likely to encourage or create barriers to adoption. In addition, information sources used by nurses and their literature searching skills were also investigated (Majid, et. al, 2011).
Like the textbook says, evidence based practice (EBP) is being used daily in the nursing field on the floor. Every day I see where EBP is used or questioned before decisions are made from many of the nurses. I work on a Med Surg floor, one example of something that we have done based off research recently is a new code caller BERT (behavioral emergency response team). This team consists of three to five people including specific behavioral health trained member and some other code team employees (Betsy, 2014). When code BERT is called it is used to true and not overwhelm the patient but calm them down and deescalate the situation being addressed. These people come to help the situation if the patient gets violent at our hospital then a code grey is called where more members come for “man power” (Betsy, 2014). This is supposed to be done like we would call a rapid response before we would call a code blue to see if we could prevent it from getting to that point.
