Explain the critical role nurses play in leading change to improve health and healthcare.
Nurses comprise of approximately 60% of healthcare personnel. Additionally; consumers of medical care and healthcare organizations in the United States are in the midst of critical nursing staffing deficits. This module examines the dynamics between the nursing shortage, physician and nurse practitioner interaction, and the effects on the healthcare consumer. The aging population and problems associated with best practice are examined. The Affordable Care Act will be revisited in relation to content of care and changes that are taking place in practice.
Objectives:
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:
Explain the critical role nurses play in leading change to improve health and healthcare.
Identify the challenges and opportunities for addressing the nation’s shortage of nurses and nursing faculty.
Understand the changes in physician practice as a result of nursing practice advancements.
Comprehend the changes in physician involvement with the organization with the Affordable Care Act.

How do you see the role of legislature contributing to safe staffing during a shortage?
