After watching the following video, which demonstrates the great divide between how the wealth is distributed in this country, and reading chapter 8, please answer the following questions based on what you have learned in the chapter (not simply what they tell you in the video) — the answers are not to be formed based on your personal opinion. (Although you are to use the information you learned from the book and film, you are to use your own words – plagiarism will result in a grade of a zero.) Although yours will probably be much longer it can not be less than 300 words.
A. Please discuss a minimum of three distinct factors that can lead to such a divide between the top 10% and the rest of the population. You can break this down further by quartiles if you wish — for instance if you want to discuss the bottom quartile for one of your answers you may or discuss the general slide from top to bottom you can as well. The chapter discusses many reasons throughout so please read the entire chapter before you complete this assignment. Please separate your three answers and number them, 1., 2., 3. (You will lose points if you do not follow these directions, as I may not be able to tell where your three answers start and stop.)
B. Then, using what you have learned in the book, please give me at least two suggestions of what can be done to reduce the gap.

Bill Clinton says (and I am paraphrasing) that the key to ending poverty is education, however, there are many that say that education is the cause of poverty. After reading the chapter on Education, watch the video from the page below (if the video does not work, try if the link does not work you can find it by going to YouTube and searching “A tale of two schools” – You are looking for a short video (4 minutes) that has two boys comparing their schools, one from Baltimore and one from Virginia). After watching the video, please answer the following questions.
FROM THE VIDEO above or on the previous page (and supporting information in the book) please:
1. Discuss a minimum of three examples of differences between the schools that lead to disadvantages in the education system as displayed in the video. (If it wasn’t discussed in the video, don’t mention it.) Please do not just list, but discuss them: What are they and why are they significant – how do they create the difference in the childrens’ education presently and in the long run? Also, please do not just be specific to that school but discuss it in general. Please number your examples 1, 2 and 3 listing the differences and their significance for each.
2. What would be your first suggestion to help bridge the gap? (There is no right or wrong answer, however, I will be grading on the thought and depth your put into it.) Feel free to discuss this among your friends and family members — it is a hot topic! Do not simply list, discuss! Please do not simply say “spread the money equally.” or “it’s all the parents fault.” This is Sociology, by now you should have learned better — read the chapter on Education before you complete this assignment. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SENTENCES BELOW!
