Checkpoint 1 of the Course Research Project consists of the following two parts that must be completed by students:
Checkpoint 1 of the Course Research Project consists of the following two parts that must be completed by students: (1) identify the foreign country that will be used as a comparison with the United States criminal justice system and briefly explain why this foreign country will serve as a good comparison; and (2) provide an annotated bibliography of the resources that have been identified thus far to use as resources for the research paper.
Part 1 of this submission where the student identifies the selected foreign country and explains why the criminal justice system of that country will serve as a good comparison with the United States criminal justice system should not exceed one page in length.
In addition to the textbook, students must have at least five other scholarly resources identified and included in the annotated bibliography that is Part 2 of this submission. As part of the annotated bibliography, students must describe the type of information that will be used from each resource and briefly explain why the resource is appropriate for the research project. The country I chose to compare to the U.S. is Australia

Checkpoint 2 of the Course Research Project consists of two sections. In the first section students will examine similarities and differences in the organization, administration, principal functions, and objectives of the criminal justice system in the United States with that of the criminal justice system of the selected foreign country. In the second section students will describe how a criminally charged individual progresses through the various stages of the criminal justice system in both the United States and selected foreign country.
As part of both sections students must address at a minimum the following functions of each criminal justice system: (1) law enforcement and arrest; (2) court proceedings; (3) correctional and alternative sentencing; and (4) rights of the accused.
Information provided in both sections of the Course Research Project paper that are submitted as part of Checkpoint 2 must be supported with cited resources. The sections of the Course Research Project paper that are submitted as part of Checkpoint 2 should be a combined length of 6 – 10 page, not counting the cover and citation pages using apa format. Please review the general guidelines for papers to obtain a description of other formatting requirements.
Students must only submit the sections of the Course Research Project paper that are part of Checkpoint 2. The components that were submitted during Week 3 as part of Checkpoint 1 must not be included with this submission.
