Answer:
The different types of teams presented in the reading assignment are insulating, broadcasting, surveying, marketing and X teams.
Insulating teams operate separate from all the other teams within the organization and are a goal-centrist team. Broadcasting teams operate internally within the team until they are ready to relay the information about their working and operations to other teams and departments. Marketing teams market their product through advertisements, connections, networking, lobbying etc. to increase profits and improve visibility of the organization in the world. Surveying teams collect data, process it to extract information and gain knowledge from the analysis of information. They always strive to upgrade themselves continually and act as a support team for resolving any customer problems. X-teams are special teams with no specific boundaries. They are created to deal with high level or critically important issues and projects.
All teams except X-teams have specific set of rules and regulations regarding boundaries. Strict adherence to them with good communication among team members ensures smooth team management. X-teams on the other hand analyze the scope of the project they are working on and modify their boundaries accordingly to allow enough leverage yet not be an inconvenience to other teams.
High collaboration is needed for internal type of teams like insulating and broadcasting teams. Hence team cohesion is a priority. But for the other three types of teams, the external ties gain in importance and hence there is a balance between the two even at the cost of some loss in team cohesion.
I was the team-worker of the team. I held a unique position in the project and hence, I had access to all the client’s resources. My permissions were the highest across the organization since I had to work on tickets pertaining to all modules in the project. Thus, I had to coordinate and understand the team’s needs along with the client. I had to take touch decision regarding sales and financial predictions which meant that I had to be proficient with both the business and technological side of things. I was an interface between the two departments and coordinating both operations was a vital part of my daily job.
