- Use the outline.doc to help you structure the case in a logical manner.
- As in any good business case, you may have to make some reasonable assumptions. Feel free to make them, but somehow identify them in your writing. Answers to these questions may help you make assumptions that provide boundaries for your work:1) Where is your arts festival doing business?2) How large is the population?3) What are the outstanding characteristics of the population?4) When, during the year, is your arts festival taking place?5) What weather conditions/constraints are you facing?6) What is the venue for your arts festival?7) What is special about your arts festival?8) What is your arts festival’s industry?
- Identify the symptoms that triggered an awareness of need for change. This is a short explanation that does not require you to restate the case. Instead, list the set of symptoms that arise from the organization’s current manner of doing business.
- Use the Six-Box diagnostic model. Do not describe the model for the reader. Explain your analysis of each model component. Do NOT give recommendations in this section. This section is about analysis only. The analysis section describes current conditions.
5. Explain, in detail, the external factors that are impacting change as they relate to this case. Complete the external table that you found in Elements of a case.docx using the external factors table. You may supplement this if you wish using elements of the PESTLE Analysis.docx that specifically describe the factors of the external environment. If you have a gap in the information in the table, look up relevant facts, make necessary assumptions and explain them. Explain, in detail, why the external forces are so important to this organization. Again, do NOT make recommendations in this section of the case/change plan.
6. Explain, in detail, the internal factors that are impacting change as they relate to this case. Complete the internal tables that you found in Elements of a case.docx that specifically describe the factors of the internal environment. You will find two internal tables that you will complete. If you have a gap in the information in the table, look it up, and provide current information to complete the table. You may supplement this if you wish using ideas from the Structural Dilemmas.doc.
7. Assess the organization’s readiness to change by using the table found in exercise 4.3. You will need to reproduce the table to show your analysis. Interpret the results of the table.
*Note: At this point, analysis is completed. You should see all of the pieces fitting neatly together, such that each internal element is either a strength or weakness, and external elements are opportunities and threats (conditions over which the organization has no control).
10. Identify your recommendations as either first-order or second-order change and provide a short explanation about why you chose this level of change. Be explicit. List your primary change recommendations. We will work on the implementation plan in the week 5 writeup.
11. Write a very short Conclusion (summary) to this writeup.
