In I/O psychology, the development, administration, and evaluation of psychological tests are common practice. Such tests are generally referred to as personnel assessments and involve a systematic approach for evaluating an individual’s talents and abilities. Personnel assessment is routinely used by organizations to make a wide variety of decisions about applicants and employees in three main areas: (1) selection, (2) promotion, and (3) career development purposes. Hiring, promoting, and developing the right people for the right job are among of the most important decisions that organizations can make.
Your task this week is to prepare a decision chart summarizing the most common types of employment tests. Distinguish among test application purposes: hiring, promotion, career development, and leadership. Identify three tests for each of these purposes. Include the question format of each test and whether each test can be administered by computer, paper/pencil, and/or live interaction. Finally, include what are the positive or negative sociocultural implications for special populations for each test type.
