This is the question:
“In the chapters from INDEPENDENT POLITICS, you read that many people who claim to be Independents these days are actually secret partisans who want to distance themselves from the stigma of “Republican” and “Democrat”. They are people who are “under cover”. They also tend to be people who are high “self-monitors”. Does the same hold for ideology? Do you think there’s a similar stigma around ideological identities that make people want to identify as “moderate” even if they aren’t? Or is this phenomenon not as relevant to ideological identity? RECALL that in the last set of threads some classmates mentioned that younger people may be clinging more to their IDEOLOGICAL identities instead of PARTISAN identities these days….food for thought.”
