In her Ted Talk, Monique W. Morris said this:
“According to a National Black Women’s Justice Institute analysis of civil rights data collected by the US Department of Education, black girls are the only group of girls who are overrepresented along the entire continuum of discipline in schools.”
Why is this happening? Why are black girls so often singled out for punishment in public schools? Watch this video and complete these two questions for your mini “exam”. You can pause the video to answer the questions. Feel free to take your examples directly from the Ted Talk but make complete sentences in your answers.
These are the questions:
1. Why are Black girls treated so differently than other girls in public school? List at least 5 ways Black girls are not treated the same according to Dr. Morris.
2. Dr. Morris relays many ways we can help to prevent Black girls from being pushed out of school. List at least 5 ideas that would help to keep Black girls in school.
Type your answers on a Word Doc and upload here. Be sure your examples are written in complete sentences and are clear to your reader. I want to get the idea that you watched/listened to this video!
