I’ve written this so far but i feel as though its one sided and might also need the view of another stakeholder on the other side of the debate (employer/business owners)? it requires polishing up
Ethics can be defined as the study of morals principles that we use to make decisions about what is right and wrong. I believe the push to reduce penalty rates in the hair and beauty industry is unethical. Firstly the female dominant industry includes some of australia’s lowest paid trade workers that’s qualification process can be compared to much higher paying male dominant jobs such as plumbing. By cutting the penalty rates of these employees it leaves employees and families out of pocket by on average $85, an amount that might not be able to be replaced, making life even harder for some of australia’s lowest paid workers.
Furthermore, cuts to penalty rates in the hair and beauty industry are unethical as the staff give up their weekends and time with family. For some, these might be the only days their children are at home thus they deserve compensation.
