Gun control is a highly controversial issue in the US today. Whether or not to require background checks and what those checks should include is part of this debate. Please research and develop an argument against the use of mental health as a factor when determining someone’s eligibility to legally purchase a gun. Consider practical matters (how would gun store owners access medical records, privacy concerns, etc.) as well as ethical issues (protection of society vs. individual rights, etc.).
Write a 2-4 page paper that uses these research findings to demonstrate an understanding of the issue of requiring background checks that include mental health history in order to buy a firearm. Develop a compelling argument, predict future trends, and present information in a rational manner. Identify and discuss at least two critical issues or dilemmas related to this debate and use APA style citations and references to support your opinion.
