Data Management Discussion Question
Programming
Our weekly discussion is the following:”Before completing your data management draft project, please describe the hardware environment for the database you are designing. Will the database be centralized or distributed? Will you use cloud computing or private servers? What vendor technology do you plan to use for the DBMS software and the database hardware. Describe the factors, such as performance, cost, and security, you considered for choosing the hardware environment. How does your choice of hardware environment fit with or change the backup plan you submitted on the week 5 discussion board?”.
I’ve provided 2 discussions that need to be responded separately.
1-)Wildcats Rentals will utilize an offsite backup service to ensure security and safety of customer data received from each rental encounter. A weekly partial backup will be performed every Sunday to capture customer updates. The partial backups will be stored offsite and distributed (cloud computing). The backup will ensure that data is readily available and secure in the event of any mishaps. To ensure that the automatic backups are running as planned, there will be monthly recovery tests that will run simultaneously to compare data from the offsite to verify functioning backup system.
2-)One aspect of our data base will be centralized on the premises that will be backed up local server. The DBMS vendor we will be using is MySQL for its globally know security and reliability in other systems used by Facebook, WordPress and Twitter. MySQL also offers unmatched scalability that use smaller footprints to manage data even on large databases. Using the Microsoft SQL server locally has some benefits which include Speed, low cost, connectivity, security and availability. Some downside to that may be that an issue on-site may contribute to back up failure or inability to recover data. In order to securely and safely use a local on-site warehouse, our location for the warehouse would need more space, workmanship. This will mean adding to labor ad equipment cost.
