For this assignment you will be asked to interview someone you know well, write reflections on your experiences, and articulate how your peer’s interviews might contribute to politically oriented research agendas.
Reading Response (Due 11 AM, 350-500 words)
For your initial response you will need to find someone close to you and ask them about major or controversial events they remember happening at the University of Maryland.
On your own you should then decide:

- What event do you both know enough about such that you could conduct an interview? What is the topic?
- What specifically do you would want to know about the event and their experience of it? What is your objective?
- What questions do you want to ask them in order to find out more about their experience and the event? What are your interview questions?

Once you have your topic, objective, and set of interview questions you should conduct your interview with your chosen subject. Remember to inform them of the purpose of the interview and that their answers will be available for the class to see.
I can’t specify for you in advance how long you should talk to them or when you will have enough information, you will have to decide that for yourself in relation to the objective you set and the assignment below. Your reading response will be a summary and reflection on your interview. You should, however, try not to include personally identifying information (like their name) about your interview subject unless they specifically consent to you including such information.
Your reading response should include the following:

- A summary of the topic, your objective, and the kinds of questions you asked. (~100 words)
- A summary of your interview subject’s responses. What was their experience of the event? How might their personal experience illuminate the broader social, political, or economic dimensions of that campus event? (~200 words)
- A reflection on your experience as an interviewer. How might your personal identities and experiences have influenced the topic, questions, or interview subject you picked? How might they have influenced the objective you came up with and what you wanted to know about the event? How might they have influenced the answers your subject gave you and the way you interpreted those answers? (~200 words)
