The United States is a democracy, with power resting in the hands of the people. In this activity you will consider two other types of government and compare them to a democracy. In this comparison, include the five basic concepts of democracy, and consider how each of these concepts makes a democracy different from the other two kinds of government.

Magna Carta
The idea of limited government, first established by the Magna Carta, is an important principle of American government. Why must government be limited? Give two specific examples of why limited government necessary.

Protesting
Pretend you are a British government official during the time leading up the Revolutionary War. Write a 2-3 paragraph letter to the editor of your local newspaper explaining your feelings about the actions of the colonists. Do you think they are overreacting? Why or why not? How do you feel the issues should be resolved?
