Discussion: Front-loading Instruction:
Activating and building academic knowledge is an important aspect of K-12 classrooms. The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Families discusses several strategies through which teachers can front-load instruction to do accomplish this goal.
For this discussion, review the information on Frontloading from the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Families, paying special attention to the section that references the front-loading instruction strategies. Then, develop a main response in which you address the following:
- Which strategies do you feel are the most useful and why?
- Considering your content area, which do you feel are the most meaningful and why?
- How could you use these strategies to inform your own teaching?

Discussion: Strategies That Work:
Applying strategies in a K-12 classroom is much different than simply reading about them. For this discussion, you will have a chance to apply a strategy you’ve read about, and reflect on the experience with your classmates. If you are not teaching at this time, you will still be able to reflect on these strategies, make predictions about their use in a classroom, and ask questions of those who are teaching.
Begin by selecting a strategy that you would like to try with students. This can be an exercise based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, the material from the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and families,or 2 X 2 Thinking. The strategy you discuss here should be different from the strategy you discussed in the other discussion of this module. Develop a main response in which you address the following:
- Describe how you implemented the strategy (or how you would implement it, for those not teaching).
- Discuss the experience (or how you would expect the experience to be) including advantages and disadvantages of the strategy you selected.
- Explain how you overcame, tried to overcome, or would overcome any challenges related to the implementation of this strategy.
