Explain the most influential lessons that you learned from the activists in the Civil Rights Movement discussed and examine the limitations that those activists faced in realizing true equality within the United States. Answer whether or not such limitations continue to exist.

PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY- Min. 5 FULL Sentences: This class, although challenging, was one of the most historical classes that I’ve ever taken that was close to home, seeing that I’m an African American woman. This class taught me so much more than things I knew about such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. I learned that African American history is such a rich and cultural history that eleven weeks is just a drop in the bucket to fully learn and understand it all. It made me hungry to do some of my own research and lean more. There is no one influential lesson that I learned from the activists discussed in this class, however, if I had to choose anything, it would be the lesson of consistency and persistence for the benefit of a cause that’s bigger than me. Everyone from African Kings in Ghana, the Atlantic Slave Trade, Civil War, 14th and 15th Amendments all the way to President Barack Obama. In every era of African American history, there was struggle within our own camp, but as things panned out, evolution came. African Americans fought huge battles to gain the respect of whites to have equal rights. In addition to having equal rights, overall having equal respect with an understanding that we’re all on the same playing field, no one is above or below another.
Limitations, of course there were limitations and YES, they still exist today. It’s existence today is more like the elephant in the room that no one wants to acknowledge. The obvious examples of this is the overwhelming amount of unarmed African Americans that are stopped and killed with no rhyme of reason. They’re a small circle of activists like John Lewis, that was in the fight for civil rights in the 60’s and serves his country presently. In addition, there’s Maxine Waters, Rev. Al Sharpton, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and a host of others that are making noise about the inequalities in the United States that still exists. The limitations that exist is the fight with the parties of government and the fact that they cannot agree on what’s best for our nation.
