Please complete ONE of the following two options:
- Hearing Loss Simulation
- Interview with a person who has documented hearing loss
Instructions: You will use standard earplugs (available for purchase at Walmart/Walgreens/CVS/any pharmacy) to simulate a hearing loss. The earplugs must be worn for at least 12 hours, during various communication situations including but not restricted to extra curricular activities, classes, work, personal and professional interactions.
Summarize your experience with the simulated hearing loss in a reflection paper. Follow the formatting instructions provided at the end of this document and ensure that the questions/points listed below are addressed.
Questions/Points to be addressed:
- What kind of listening situations were you in?
- What impact did the earplugs have on your communication?
- Any particularly easy/difficult listening situations?
- Include your personal opinions and comments on the experience.
- Include a reflection on past and/or current issues and/or patient care?
OR
Instructions: Interview a person who has a diagnosed hearing loss and summarize your interview in a reflection paper addressing the following questions:
Questions/Points to be addressed:
- What is the history and timeline for diagnosis of hearing loss for the interviewee?
- What is the type and cause of hearing gloss, as well as associated symptoms (e.g., tinnitus, dizziness)?
- What has the rehabilitation process included for the interviewee?
- How did conducting this interview influence/enhance your understanding of aural rehabilitation and/or living with hearing loss?
- Include personal opinions and comments on psycho-social and behavior impact.

- Correct spelling and grammar
- Organization and coherence in writing
Please note that you may address other points/questions than those specified in “Questions/Points to be addressed” as well, but the above mentioned points MUST be addressed with respect to grading.
Points will be automatically deducted if any of the formatting guidelines are not adhered to/questions are unanswered.
Also note that adhering to the above-mentioned guidelines does not ensure full points in the assignment; it is subject to further in-depth grading.
