As of July 1, 2016, a new law in California (SB 277) requires that nearly every child must be vaccinated to attend public or private school and day care, and can no longer opt out of mandatory vaccinations due to religious or personal belief exemptions (children with certain medical conditions that prevent them from being vaccinated are still exempt). The passing of this law was prompted by the measles outbreak that begun at Disneyland in December 2014.
