Analyze at least 3 classmates’ comments into one new comment of your own. You must analyze/synthesize viewpoints and assumptions of classmates and experts.

1.Sub-Competency 7.2.1 states to Identify current and emerging issues requiring advocacy (NCHEC,2017). This is definitely  an important responsibility, when advocating for Cardiovascular Disease. This disease effects many Americans but however, more African-Americans are bound to have this disease. This disease can be hereditary or can come from stress or health wise. Communication is very important in the prevention process of these issues that are associated with CVD.  Educating our communities on eating healthy and how to not allow stress to overtake our day to day process can be one prevention. CVD runs in my family and I myself have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. My physician informed me on what will happen if I had continuedeating the foods I loved so much and not watching mu weight..  My health issues came from my father who now has two stints in his heart. I’m just grateful that this course is truly teaching me on how to become an advocate on the health issues that are near and dear to me so, I can help make a difference.

2.Sub-Competency 7.2.1 Identify current and emerging issues requiring advocacy (NCHEC, 2017). The issue of diabetes is becoming more common. Even though it can be controlled, in part, by diet and exercise the numbers are increasing over time and with age. This is a very important issue due to the fact that it is affecting a large number of the population.  Type 2 diabetes can cause kidney damage, heart disease and blindness. It is also a leading cause of death in both men and women. Lose extra weight, exercise and eat a healthy diet to prevent diabetes. (KULAS, 2013) This is one of the issues with my family as my mother has it and so does several of my cousins. It is news that I do not want to hear from my doctor. Even thought obesity and diabetes are linked, it is not know how.  Diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, is a disease that causes high blood sugar. It occurs when there is a problem with insulin. (Berry, 2027)Today, nearly 10 percent of the population have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and a quarter of them do not even know it. The ADA report that the number of people who have diabetes increased by 382 percent from 1988 to 2014. People need to be educated on this issue more so they can realize that it is a serious issue and once the damage is done it can not be reversed. I have personally seen how this disease can have devastating impacts on a family. As Americans are living longer, this disease is on the increase with the older generation. I have read a lot of publications on the issue and  it is not sure why some overweight people get the disease and others do not but it is thought to be about where in your body you carry body fat. The population that gets it more are the ones that carry the fat in their upper body. I think that part of the problem is due to foods being processed and more sugars being put into foods. And it goes back to not eating healthy foods that your body needs.

3.Sub-Competency 7.2.1 Identify current and emerging issues requiring advocacy (NCHEC, 2017). The issue is obesity in America. There are more than two-thirds (68.8 percent) of adults are considered to be overweight or obese. More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults are considered to be obese. … Almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) are considered to be overweight or obese. The prevalence of obesity is similar for both men and women (about 36 percent). The word obesity refers to the excess amount of body fat. This is brought on from lack of imbalance of energy and not burning enough calories the body uses. 

When being overweight or obesity could lead to other serious health issues such as, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and a list of other health problems. Keeping our kids and society as a whole informed about how important it is to stay active and practicing healthy habits. Implementing health programs that benefit a good lifestyle to help try to sustain a longer life. I truly think this course is an eye opener for us all and makes us more aware of the numerous health risk that are out there for us to learn about and try making the world a better place when pertaining to health in general.
