summary of the insights and information you gained from the interview about writing in the workplace

Email your contact as soon as you can, for they will be expecting to hear from you. Introduce yourself in
the email, ask about the contact’s background, if they would prefer to meet in person, over the phone,
or conduct the interview over email, and how soon they would like to meet. CC me on the email to
ensure you do not lose marks. You need to email your mentor within a week of receiving their
information or lose 5% of your grade. Timeliness is important.
Make sure the email follows the Eight C’s as you will be submitting the correspondence with your initial
interview questions, follow-up questions, and 350-500 word summary of the insights and information
you gained from the interview about writing in the workplace. In other words, I do not require a
transcript of your interview. I want to hear about what you learned from the interview. You should be
concrete, which may mean quoting your source, but you will not need a references page as this is an
informal report.
You may use first-person.
Sample Questions – you will need to focus on areas of interest to you and follow-up questions
What is your educational background? Did you start out in X?
What is your workplace?
What kinds of writing do you do?

they do all the time!
And which do you think are most interesting to discuss?
What challenges do you face in writing X? What do you know about those genres now that you
wished you had known earlier in your practice? Are there conventions that seem second nature
to you now that seemed odd at first?
How did your university education and writing prepare you for your workplace writing?
What type of writing that you do was initially unexpected? Is there a type of writing that you
would never have anticipated?
Where do you write? Do you have an open-plan office, a closed room, a computer etc.? Do you
write differently in different spaces? Different things in different spaces?
How do you adapt to different audiences? (client, colleague, government agency…?) is there
anywhere you can get feedback?
Do you have a community or colleagues?
How does your community/do your colleagues affect your writing? Are any projects
collaborative? And what impact does that collaboration have on your workplace writing?
You mentioned genre x and y. Are there any conventions that direct the writing that you would
