In this course, you will create a company profile of a publicly traded firm. This project will help you understand the competitive nature and strategy of the
company. You may choose any publicly traded company for which there is readily available information—one you work for or one you are interested in—as the
subject of you project. It is especially fun to explore a company with which you do business (e.g., Costco, Walmart, Amazon, etc.) or where you might like to get a
job. You will work with a Writing Center Consultant to structure and outline your paper (you are encouraged to continue working with the writing center
throughout the writing process). You will also participate in peer review of papers midway through the project.
This project focuses on physical aspects (artifacts) of culture, patterns of behavior and communications, and organizational values and assumptions.
This 5-part project has the following required components
1. Milestone 1: Choose a publicly traded company, locate its company website, and find its stock name
a. Optional: Schedule an appointment with a librarian to create a research plan for this project
2. Independently research the company (integrated throughout the entire term)
a. Document the vision, mission, and values
b. Document the leadership and management structure
c. Apply Porter’s Five Forces
d. Assess options for your company in international markets
e. Conduct a SWOT analysis
f. Create a Value Chain analysis
g. Assess business-level strategies
h. Assess cooperative and competitive strategies (focus on Blue Ocean strategy)

j. Assess organizational structure
3. Create an annotated bibliography for your project
a. Milestone 2:Attend librarian training on your annotated bibliography
b. Milestone 3: Submit your annotated bibliography for a grade
4. Draft your company profile paper
a. You are encouraged, but not required, to work with the Writing Center and the library throughout the draft phase
b. Milestone 4: Get feedback from the writing center on your draft paper
5. Milestone 5: Submit your revised and edited paper for a grade

Select your publicly traded company within the first weeks of the course. Your initial research must include an Internet search. . Find and submit the following
information so that your instructor can approve your choice:

Throughout the term, you will be prompted to apply what you are learning in each unit to your company. While this is a large project, if you work a little each
week, you will find that the project nearly completes itself. Make and commit to a personal strategy of research excellence!
Milestone 2 and Milestone 3: Structure an annotated bibliography
For your company profile paper, you will need references in addition to company website and readings assigned for the course. This milestone
activity will help focus your attention toward useful, reliable materials. Annotated bibliographies help writers evaluate their sources and consolidate
their ideas prior to drafting research papers. For each entry, provide a properly APA-formatted reference followed by a two-part annotation of 75-100
words or slightly more: summarizing the source material and describing how the source is relevant to your topic.

• one (1) online news sources, and
• one (1) other source of your choosing that is appropriate for your paper (remember, Wikipedia is not acceptable)
