With your overall project, you’re working to really integrate some empirical insights into your topic. This allows you to develop a pretty standard social science style paper (basically, one that follows the general structures of many of the academic articles you read). To that end, as you’re still working on expanding your literature and working on your overall argumentation of what matters in general, you should also make sure you’re in the process of collecting your data and beginning the analytical portion of your paper.
In this assignment, you need to do the following:
Complete at least two interviews or two hours in the field
for interviews, you need to transcribe them; for field research, you need to write out your fieldnotes.
Begin the process of write-up and analysis
Your assignment must contain the following:
one to two paragraphs explaining the method being used with justification as to why it helps you address your overall research question (note: you need to make sure it’s theoretically informed so use the reading/lecture to aid in this)
begin the process of analysis
work this out in the following: look for areas where the literature overlaps with what people said/what you observed/what the images show

namely, you’re looking to understand what’s happening; I don’t expect a grounded theoretical approach, rather use the constructs in what you’ve read guide you on what to search for in what you’ve gathered
the transcriptions/field notes at the end of what you’ve written
This is meant as a manner to make the initial foray into how you’re thinking about this. One major boon to analysis is also a process of peer discussion/aid, so this will receive comments from us as well as two of your peers. We will be working throughout the remainder of the term on tightening up the intro and lit review and working on expanding the interpretative abilities in relation to data itself. Don’t worry about missing something here. Rather, this is to get you to begin thinking about how the literature you’ve gather can help you to interpret the world around you and see if the findings in the broader literature hold for the empirical case you’ve created.
