The unification of African countries under a single flag and constitution is not a new concept in history. The strategy began long ago with the Germans and the Americans. After independence, a group of thirteen distinct regions joined to form the United States of America. Germany originated from combining several islands to establish one nation. Countries like Spain, Italy, and France were once united under the Roman Empire. The examples provide two distinct sides of the proposition of merging states. The Roman territory broke long ago while the United States of America and Germany are still together. The unpredictable pattern gives a valid reason to evaluate the benefits of joining African nations under one administration.
The African continent suffers from civil wars and regional conflicts. The formation of a single constitution will resolve the various challenges that the region faces. The cure for the scramble for resources and rivalry over trade boundaries lies in aggregating the markets. The creation of sole control also enables relevant organizations to align their strategies for shared goals. Africa requires a clear framework which is necessary for the success in the fight against HIV/AIDS and famine (Iqbal & Zorn, 2010). Inadequate harmonization of systems causes failure of crucial programs that could have transformed the livelihood of the people. The integration of African nations is a noble idea which constitutes a robust approach to redefining Africa. The fortunes of the region depend on the generation solutions that promote cooperation among the people.
The governments all over Africa struggle to initiate and sustain development projects. The inability of the individual nations to raise adequate financial and technical resources is a recipe for economic retardation. The world recognizes Africa with high poverty level, low per capita incomes, underdevelopment and so forth. The introduction of United Africa of Africa enables regions to share resources (Falagiarda, 2010). Sustainable projects that can alleviate Africa’s population from destitution requires substantial financial investments. Only a small portion of African nations can implement life-changing plan given their limited financial muscles. There is a need to pool the available investment capital to ensure that the continent has enough financial muscles to correct disparities among countries. The creation of a single pot of project funds to transform Africa should be a top priority for the various heads of states.
Africa has substantial figures in regards to population size. The significant number of people provides insights into the potential market proportion in the region. The formation of a United States of Africa is a sure way to earn optimal gains from business opportunities (Du Bois, 2014). The current boundaries that separate countries hinder the free movement of commodities. The trade barriers initiated by various governments only serve to restrict the demand for products. Producers shrink their capacities because of the small market size since they cannot sell beyond their home country’s borders. A single region that operates under the same set of regulation and policies will eliminate the trade restrictions that exist. Traders will enjoy an extensive market for their goods and significant profits in return.
The unity of African countries is vital to the attainment of the millennium development goals (MDGs) and resolution of conflicts in the continent. The strategy allows states to share resources, promotes efficient utilization of the market, and peaceful coexistence. African presidents should adopt the proposal to enable efficient use of resources. The continent is on the right track, and a radical move is critical to sustained growth.
