Aggregate Community Windshield Survey

Aggregate Community Windshield Survey

There are two parts to the windshield survey assignment. In Week 1 you are required to submit a draft of your survey. In Week 2 you will submit your final windshield survey based on feedback from your instructor and your continued work.

In a Microsoft Word document of 3-4 pages formatted in APA style, you will describe the aggregate and community in which the aggregate is located. Please note that the title and reference pages should not be included in the total page count of your paper.

Describe the Aggregate

Begin the assignment by describing your aggregate. Include the following information:

  • Name of the aggregate
  • Geographical location and size
  • Population
  • A brief history
  • Basic vital statistics
  • Crude birth rate, infant mortality rate, life expectancy, leading causes of death, and any other relevant statistical information related to the health of the aggregate from the windshield survey.
  • Explain, giving at least two reasons, why you selected this particular aggregate for your Capstone project

Windshield Survey

With the use of public transportation or by driving a vehicle around the community, you can assess the common characteristics of the community of your selected aggregate.

Key observations to make during a windshield survey include the following:

  • Age and condition of the homes in the community
  • Location and condition of parks and other recreational areas
  • Amount of space between homes and businesses
  • Neighborhood hangouts
  • Transportation in the community
  • Quality of streets and sidewalks
  • Types/numbers of stores and other businesses
  • People out in the community
  • Race/ethnicity
  • Cleanliness of the community
  • Billboards or other media displays
  • Places of worship
  • Availability of services—doctor, dentist, social centers, recreation centers, hospitals

On a separate references page, cite all sources using APA format.

  • Use this APA Citation Helper as a convenient reference for properly citing resources.
  • This handout will provide you the details of formatting your essay using APA style.
  • You may create your essay in this APA-formatted template.
  • Use relevant charts and graphs to support the information you collected. Identify the sources of your information and describe how you went about collecting the information.Windshield Survey Tool

Nurses must be able to knowledgeably plan services for individuals, families and the community. In order to effectively plan, it is essential that you are aware of the resources specific to the community a client resides in to allow for identification of health-related resources and to understand gaps in services. A windshield survey is conducted from a car and provides a visual overview of a community. Conditions and trends in the community that could affect the health of the population should be noted. This data provides background and context for working with individuals and families in their community. Information gathered from this survey should be added to this template. Please print and turned the completed document to the instructor by 2/2/15. If data is collected (statistical, informational, geographic), then a reference page using APA format (6th edition) is expected.

    Boundaries

Are the boundaries geographical, political, or economic?

    Do neighborhoods have names?

    Are there sub-communities?

    How are these identified?

Whitehouse is a rural community approx 8 mi from a large city.

There are many neighborhoods in whitehouse and the majority of them are named. There is an app available on smartphones called the ‘neighborhood app’ which allows the entire cm=ommunity to communicate. Each neighborhhod is listed on the app sp you can post announcements or notifications just for your neighborhood or the greater whitehouse area.

    Housing and Zoning

What is the age of the buildings? Are the residences single family or multifamily dwellings?

There are not a lot of housing opportunities available in whitehouse. There are only two apartment complexes and both are income based. There is a new subdivision that is strictly townhomes. Several established neighborhoods and homes with land are also available, but it gets expensive buying land here. Most of the homes are well-kept.
    Signs of Decay

Is the area well maintained or in disrepair? Is there garbage strewn? Are there trashed/abandoned cars, places for rodents or other wildlife to hide, vacant lots?

Whitehouse recently appointed a new city manager, so there are many updates taking place in our community. There are not any vacant lots that I have seen but there are several vacant stores within shopping centers where businesses moved out of whitehouse about two years ago. However, here within the last few mnths there have been three new busiess come to our community. This is a well-kept community for the most part, of course there are areas you could wander off to that are not as well-kept. There is a ‘keep whitehouse beautiful’ project taking place. I did not see any abadoned cars but there are many pedestrians walking along the roadside on sidewalks provided by the city.
    Parks and Recreational Areas

Are there play areas for children and adults? Are they safe and maintained? Is there a Community Center? Who uses them?

There is one city park that is well-maintained and a splash pad for play during the summer months. The park is safe and is right next door to the police station and fires tation. A community center is available and there are events year round that take place such as sports clinics, self-defense classes, and karate just to name a few.
    Common Areas

Where do people collect for social gatherings; where do they “hang out”? Are they for particular groups or are they open to all? Are there signs posted?

    Stores

What stores (grocery, retail, drug, dry cleaning, etc.) are in the area? How do residents travel to them?

    Transportation

How do most people get around the area? Is there public transportation? If so what kind and does it appear to be used? Who uses it? What is the condition of the streets, roads, highways?

    Communication

Is there evidence of local and national newspapers to other media? Are there informational posters on streets, busses, billboards, etc.?

    Service Centers

What services are available in the community – health care, social services, schools, employment offices etc.?

    People in the Community

Who is in the area during the day? What evidence is thereof particular “classes” of people – upper, middle, working, lower?

    Industries

What are the major industries located in the area? What types of occupations are evident?

    Protective Services

Where are fire and police stations located? Is there evidence of police and fire protection in the area?

    Ethnicity

What is the predominant ethnic group? Are there residents from a variety of ethnic backgrounds or is the community mostly one group? Which one? Are there stores, restaurants, churches, schools, or languages that indicate a particular ethnic group(s)?

    Religion

What churches and church-run schools are in the area (denomination)? How many are there of each denomination?

    Health and Morbity

Is there evidence of any health problems such as drug/alcohol abuse, communicable or chronic diseases, mental illness (etc)?

    Politics

Is there evidence of political activity? Are there any signs that indicate a predominant political party (parties)or concern(s)?

    Week 1 Midweek Assignment

    Introduction

The purposes of this capstone project is to gather information regarding facility procedures and gather understanding of how specific dynamics that may be controlled within a private child care, can help minimize the potential of introduction/possible spread of COVID-19 during the current pandemic. The specific community chosen is the population of a residential / commercial childcare recipients and their families, as well as the staff of the institution.. Sunshine Childcare operates 24 hours a day and is located in a residential home, in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, adequately enabled to serve 25 kids, with a the range of ages between 7 months and 14 years old, 92% Hispanic, 4% Afro-Americans and 4% Native Americans.

The working staff is constituted by two direct care providers and occasional maintenance workers, who are overseen by the director, which is the owner.

Under the current COVID-19 pandemic circumstances, Sunshine Childcare has implemented the following infection control measures: hand washing and use of hand sanitizer during the day, use of a facial mask for kids above 3 years old, prohibiting outside visitors and parents dropping off their kids from entering into the facility. The only exception applies to authorities from Children Youth and Family Division, essential medical personal needed for the kids and emergency maintenance personnel..

“Based on available evidence, children do not appear to be at higher risk for COVID-19 than adults” (CDC, 2020).However, it is important to note that implementation of infection control measures within the chosen community constitute of great significance because since is a new disease we are learning about it every day.

The project aims to analyze the needs of education to staff and families in the implementation of measures to prevent the introduction and/or break the chain of transmission within their homes, the community and inside the facility. Each family must implement a closed environment and follows the mandatory statute of social distance.

Outcomes from this study will serve to reveal which additional measures can be implemented in Sunshine Childcare, as well as aspects of the education needed from the staff and families to prevent the transmission.

    Problem Statement

Sunshine Childcare has implemented restriction guidelines regarding outside visitors and parent’s ability to access the actual building when they drop their children off and pick them up. In addition,…
