Current technology and trends in healthcare are opening doors for less patient interaction it appears. There are more virtual visits and automated services being implemented. Computerized assistance are already being used in surgeries with robotics. As we continue to advance in technology these will only increase. Some services such as emergency trauma care will most likely stay the same due to the variables that can occur in any second. I can see more apps on phones being used for patient’s medical forms that each doctor requires you to fill out at almost every visit or at least once a year. Checking in for an appointment upon arrival could also be done either on a phone to limit human interaction especially during times of contagious illness. This could limit some careers as far as a front desk representative but could open careers for a health information manager as they could be auditing the patient records as well as trending data to promote preventative care or education for their facility.

Hello Everyone,
Some of the trends that I anticipate to see in healthcare informatics is the use of more artificial intelligence. Many technologies are already being used like voice recognition technology, documenting at a patient’s bedside, and being able to access your medical information from your cell phone. Telehealth is also becoming more popular, especially since this COVID-19. I hope technology moves to the point to continue to make applications more senior friendly, like with large words, and minimal information on a page, or just enough so they can engage.
The HIM professional is the bridge between the clinical staff and the information technology crew. They are able to use the necessary skills to manage, maintain, govern, secure, transmit, and manipulate other data in formats that can be understood easily.
