You are the Chair of an academic department at a mid-size regional university. Faculty are evaluated annually in three categories; teaching, service and professional contributions. The Chair assigns a numerical score for each area between 1-5 (5 being the best). The personnel committee of the department has proposed a policy that would require you to provide the mean, median and mode scores from the evaluation of the faculty of the department.
When you are in this position, you will need to be able to evaluate proposed policy changes from the view of the manager and employee and look at both the pros and cons from both views. Consider these views and write an email to the personnel committee Chair explaining the pros and cons of the policy and your recommendation on if the policy should be adopted.
