A student determined the enthalpy of solution of NaOH by dissolving 4.00g of NaOH(s) in 180mL of pure water (density of water=0.999g/mL) at an initial temperature of 19.5 C. Temperature-time data collected after mixing was extrapolated back to the time of mixing to obtain a temperature change= +5.5 C. The density of the final solution was 1.013 g/mL at 25 C, and the solution specific heat was 4/08 J/g*deg. In a separate experiment, the calorimeter constant was found to be 21 j/deg.

  1. What is the solution made up of?
  2. What is the mass of water in the solution?
  3. What is the mass of the solution?
  4. What is the volume of the solution in milliliters?
  5. What is the general definition of molarity?
  6. What is the solute?
  7. How many moles of solute are present?
  8. What is the volume of the solution in liters?
  9. What is the molar concentration of the final NaOH solution at 25 C?
  10. What is the formula for determining the heat capacity, Cs, of a solution?
  11. What is the heat capacity, Cs, for this solution?
  12. What is the formula for determining enthalpy?
  13. What is the enthalpy for this reaction?
  14. What are the units for enthalpy?
  15. What is the molar enthalpy for this reaction?
  16. What are the units for the molar enthalpy?

I know this is a lot, but I’m sooo confused!
