Preparation: An analytical paper breaks down an issue or an idea into its component parts, evaluates the issue or idea, and presents this breakdown and evaluation to the audience.
Directions:
Write an analytical paper, at least 8 paragraphs in length, on the following topic:
Scenario:
Imagine you are typical medium-sized business, with (500–2,000) employees, and with a widely diverse and distributed client base. You are thinking of moving some or all of your mission critical applications to the cloud. All your computing is “In House†currently
Model your analysis through the use of public, private, hybrid, or community cloud deployment models. Include a description of each type. Identify the benefits and costs of each model.
You can make any additional reasonable assumptions related to how your business operates and what kinds of applications it relies on. Your business currently has an ecommerce site running on servers located at the head office location. 50% of the sales for your company are as a result of orders taken from that site. You also have a sales force of 65.
Topic:
Provide an analysis of the cost, benefits and risks, of the various cloud deployment models in the context of the above scenario.
It is important to assume and mention, but do not focus on, specific applications. You probably do not have enough information as yet to address specific issues related to each application area. This paper is meant to focus your thinking on the broad overview of decision making criteria, (including financial), that a business may face when considering increasing its cloud resources at the expense of “in-house†resources.
Generally look at what impact may it have on your supplies, customers, IT staff, cost structure, facilities, capabilities, service levels, and risk structure.
It may be a good idea to search for specific case studies and to inform your analysis with those case studies compared with your readings from this unit. Please remember that case studies may be (often are) published by a specific vendor to support their product offering and may contain significant bias.
