Question1: What is meant by the term “vertical integration Describe the vertical integration of Verizon by purchases Yahoo.
Vertical Integration is a structure where a company owns the supply chain of their product and is usually made up of one or two companies involved in different stages of production (Sraders, 2018). In this case it is made up of two companies: Verizon and Yahoo and their aim is to become a competitor to online advertising giants: Facebook and Google (Knutson, 2016). Since digital advertising is quickly taking over traditional ways of advertising, Verizon wants to integrate Yahoo into the mix in order to use their advertising assets. This will allow Verizon to do everything they need to further their success within the company without having to go into horizontal integration.

Question2: How/why might this merger affect Verizonâ€
s customers? Stockholders? Rivals?
Verizonâ€
s agreement to buyout Yahoo will affect its customers, stockholders, and rivals in the following ways. For example, when the bidding began in April, Verizon was the front runner. Verizon announced plans to integrate Yahoo with AOL under Marni Walden, president of production innovation and new business at Verizon. After this announcement, Yahooâ€
s shares fell 2.7% while Verizonâ€
s dropped less than 1%. This will benefit Verizon Stockholders. Rivals will need to beware as Verizon is acquiring a portfolio of online content and by acquiring Yahoo will bring in millions more viewers for Verizon. I also feel that this positively affects customers in that current Verizon consumers will now receive access to Yahoo sites like finance, sports and news.
