Assume your supervisor has asked you to assemble all your work to present to the rest of the clinical team
Assignment Instructions
Now that you have examined the literature and developed the structure for your proposed group, it is time to put the pieces together. Assume your supervisor has asked you to assemble all your work to present to the rest of the clinical team. Consider the feedback you have received from the previous assignments and complete the following:
Section 1: Compare and contrast the applicability of different group leadership or facilitation styles and approaches (revise from Unit 3 assignment).
Section 2: Integrate theoretical orientation and group leadership and facilitation styles into the group structure and development processes and support choices with recent academic research (revise from Unit 7 assignment).
Section 3: Based on your analysis of the research, develop a succinct plan appropriate for the selected group topic and population. Include session activities and interventions aligning with measurable group outcomes established in Unit 7 assignment. Make sure that your plan:
Addresses key ethical and legal issues (revise from Unit 3 assignment).
Incorporates multicultural and diversity awareness, knowledge, and skills (revise from Unit 3 assignment).
Is based on a specific major counseling theory.
Supports therapeutic factors of a group in the working stage (see Chapter 5 of your Group Counseling: Concepts and Procedures text ).

Start writing your introduction here (1-2 paragraphs). An effective introduction prepares the reader by identifying the purpose of the paper and providing the organization of the paper. Please double-space and remember to indent all paragraphs throughout your paper. Aim to keep your writing objective using 3rd person. Unless citing a classic work, tap research articles and texts published within the past 5 years. Please use headings throughout your paper that are consistent with the paper’s scoring guide that way you ensure you are adequately addressing all required areas.
When you finish writing your paper, re-read it to check for errors and make sure your ideas flow well. A helpful tip is to read your paper aloud to yourself. If it does not sound right to your ear – it is not working on paper! Please submit your papers to Turnitin (link in the course homepage) to check for plagiarism and increase the originality in your writing. Section 1: Comparing Supporting Literature
Review the feedback provided for u03a1, particularly the third section of the u03a1scoring guide that matches the first one for u10a1. Select and edit this portion of u03a1 to include here. Edits will likely be needed to meet the Distinguished criterion, “Evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, and applicability of sources that compare and contrast the applicability of different group leadership or facilitation styles and approaches”. Focus upon the relative merits of the literature that researched group approaches for your target population. Copying your entire submission for u03a1 is not your best strategy. If the feedback for u03a1 pointed out that the comparison or evaluation was missing, here is your chance to correct that oversight.
Section 2: Theory and Group Leadership
Revise and edit the third section of u07a1 to establish the theoretical foundation for your group. The entire submission of u07a1 is not needed and may detract from meeting the second Distinguished criterion. It reads, “Skillfully integrates theoretical orientation and group leadership and facilitation styles into the group structure and development processes and supports choices with recent academic research”. Notice that this matches the third section of the u07a1 scoring guide addressing theory. Edit that section based upon your instructor’s feedback and include it here.
Section 3: Group Plan
Legal and Ethical Issues
Revisit the third heading from u03a1. As noted, legal and ethical issues may be addressed in multiple articles for groups for your topic or population even if it isn’t the primary focus for the article. Revise and build upon evaluation you developed of legal and ethical issues in u03a1 making certain the ethical and legal issues are specific to your proposed group. The Distinguished criterion is, “Evaluates the ethical and legal considerations involved in working with a specific group therapy model and an identified population and identifies potential consequences of ignoring these considerations”. Relevant ethical or legal issues can arise because of the topic of the group (e.g. mandated clients for anger management) or the population (issues related to consent for minors). Cite the relevant ethical standards to support your evaluation. This section can be adequately addressed in a few well-developed paragraphs.
Cultural Factors
Revisit the fourth heading from u03a1. Cultural or diversity issues may be addressed in multiple articles for groups for your topic or population even if it isn’t the primary focus for the article. Revise and build upon analysis you developed of legal and ethical issues in u03a1. The current Distinguished criterion is, “Incorporates consistently, skillfully and appropriately, multicultural and diversity awareness and knowledge to the processes of structuring and developing a group.” Just like ethical and legal issues, issues related to culture and diversity may be raised because of the presenting issue or diversity within the group itself. You may locate articles that address how to be mindful of diversity in groups in general to support the analysis of how the concepts inform the proposed group. This section can also be adequately addressed in a few well-developed paragraphs.
Therapeutic Factors
This section addresses the section of the scoring guide with the Distinguished criterion, “Analyzes the role of therapeutic factors for the effectiveness of a proposed group”. This is new content for your proposal. You may need to review the therapeutic factors in Chapter 5 of your text. Covering this section in a solid page will provide a very focused plan for a group that is clearly supported by the literature to make the connection between therapeutic factors and what makes a group effective. Focus on the factors that are most relevant for your proposed group. For example, if the presenting problem involves shame, universality may rise as a factor that the group leader(s) would want to foster. Please note that this section is worth 15% of the grade because it represents work that is new rather than edited from the previous assignments.
Plan for Group Activities and Interventions
This final section of the paper addresses the section of the scoring guide with the Distinguished criterion, “Develops an action plan for the proposed group that is tailored to support therapeutic factors of a group in the working stage with carefully selected academic resources that support the action plan”. This is also new content for your proposal. These interventions or activities need to be grounded in the specific counseling theory described in Section 2 and take into account the issues raised in the other headings for this section. Covering this section in two pages will provide a very focused plan for a group that is clearly supported by the literature (citations needed). Describe how the group sessions will be organized to support group development. You do not need to list a plan for each individual group session. You may group them to match the stages of group development. Please note that this section is worth 30% of the grade because it represents work that is new rather than edited from the previous assignments.
Conclusion
Please provide a conclusion that summarizes the main ideas of your paper.
