or this first journal entry, choose one hip-hop recording (anything you like) to describe in detail, and compose a thoughtful critical response. What do you hear? What is the significance of the performance? How might you interpret the recording or video you’ve chosen? Consider this an opportunity to introduce yourself as a listener. In reviewing these, we’ll be looking for close and careful listening, evocative musical description, thoughtful reflection, and clear/coherent/concise writing. Much hip-hop is about thoughtful and creative verbal expression. So rather than an “off the cuff” reaction, devote some care and craft to composing your written response. The target word count is 400, but feel free to write as much as you need to in order to say what you need to say. (Always) have fun, and (always) be creative. This one’s due on 17 February
