Benchmark – Small Group Lesson and Assessment Plan
For this benchmark, you will develop a technology-based assessment that you could use to monitor progress with a small diverse group of students (must include at least one student with exceptionalities).
Part 1: Design a Lesson with Assessment
Using the “COE Lesson Plan Template†and the information you gained from your pre-assessment in the Topic 6 field experience, create a lesson for the group that will support the studentsâ€
growth in the selected domains. As explained in the earlier field experience, this small group needs to include at least one student with a cognitive disability or learning delay. You may use the same technology-based assessment activity that you administered for the pre-assessment within this lesson plan, or make minor modifications to it. Include the following in your lesson plan:
- Clearly describe the technology-based and other assessment tools and approaches that are planned for observing, documenting, and collecting data on student performance and progress.
- Continue to differentiate the learning activities and formative and summative assessments, based on the small group of students. If applicable, also describe any assistive technology or devices you may have incorporated for the student with the cognitive disability or learning delay.
- Detail how you would provide the students with data-based feedback to guide them as they continue to practice their skills.
In addition to completing the lesson plan, write a 250-500 word rationale explaining the decisions you made in developing the lesson plan. Include the following:
- How the pre-assessment data-informed decision-making about learning targets, content, and strategies in the lesson plan.
- How your needs-based, differentiated lesson plan helps to promote each studentâ€
s growth and potential, which is indicative of applying Christian worldview principles in the education setting.
Part 2: At-home Practice
Select one student with exceptionalities from the small group that you pre-assessed to provide additional assistance at home. Write a letter (250-500 words) to send home to the family of this student in an effort to develop a partnership that would support their child in practicing the targeted skills. This letter should include information regarding the pre-assessment data, the activities the student will be engaged in during class (based on your lesson plan), and suggest a research-based at-home activity that the parents can facilitate to support their childâ€
s development in the domain area. Include a brief rationale as to why that specific activity is appropriate for meeting their childâ€
s needs, based on the pre-assessment data.
Support your work with 1-2 scholarly sources.
While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
