Virtual Exchange Programme IUT de Bordeaux / Richland College
Participants: Geoff Manzi; Professor of Philosophy; School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts; Richland College; Dallas, Texas Thierry Villard, Language Teacher, Materials and Science Engineering department Iut de Bordeaux. Aim: To afford students from different academic backgrounds, cultures, and geographic locations an opportunity to exchange perspectives on certain societal/ethical themes by selecting a particular to explore together, thereby deepening their intercultural skills and developing their interdisciplinary understanding of ethical aspect of key societal issues in their context. Organization: International teams of American and French students will be organized for them to work together and exchange on current societal issues with an emphasis on their ethical implications – Please see the spreadsheet that indicates the student groups… and reach out to your group partners immediately to begin the collaboration! I would recommend ‘replying’ to your partner’s FlipGrid video with your email address and a pleasant greeting – from there, y’all can then determine your own preferred method of communication moving forward. *Communication note: there is a 7 hour difference between the USA and Bordeaux.* Topics: Please choose a topic of exploration/investigation that follows under one of the following umbrella topics (ie feel free to either stick with a topic generally or hone in on a more specific facet or example thereof). – Their city/state in terms of architecture, history/geography; fine art and performance venues – Talking about their social institutions: education system; prison system; welfare system; health care system – Environmental issues such as transport (use of cars, bikes)/ recycling/plastic pollution/ sea or river pollution/sorting waste … – Everyday life: food, anything to do with students life.. – Any topic related to their age, occupations. Activities:
– The group project could take on any form of presentation – some examples include (but are certainly not limited to) a co-authored essay; a power point presentation; a recorded podcast; an animated video; a digital poster board; a website/blog. I encourage everyone to think creatively! – Aside from the group project, each student will produce two short video documents. In the first one, they will introduce themselves to the others. In the last one, they will share their thoughts and offer feedback on the experience. Due Date: -May 11th
