A disaster is a sudden event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to cope using its own resources. A disasters cause can be either natural or manmade (Maurer & Smith, 2012).

 

No matter if the disaster is manmade or natural, individuals can be affected both physically and emotionally. Exploring a person’s initial reaction to a disaster can provide insight into some dimensions of his/her spirituality. One’s first reaction usually consist of blame; either blaming the disaster as being human, natural, or related to God. Everyone has a spiritual dimension that motivates, energizes, and influences every aspect of life. Spirituality is a person’s way of being, thinking, choosing, and acting in light of their values (Barlow, 2015).

 

Although spirituality can differ for individuals, it appears that all people are spiritual beings. Studies have found that there is a connection between spirituality and health improvement. Spirituality can be expressed through ritual, religion, meditation, guided imagery, spending time in nature, and many other forms. Therefore, nurses should address patients/individual’s spirituality along with physical and emotional needs (Barlow, 2015).

 

Nurses can provide spiritual support by reaching out to individuals in need. Providing support for individuals experiencing pain, suffering, and other needs. Spiritual support can consist of gestures; such as praying, listening, offering reassurance, a simple touch, or perhaps providing a place for rituals. Patients as well as health care provider’s spiritual needs need to be addressed (Barlow, 2015).

 

Disasters affect all parties involved. It can affect all parties physical, emotionally, and mentally. Everyone’s spirituality should be cared for in order to reach a state of wellbeing. Persons must be cared for as a whole in order to have better outcomes.

Hi Rosy, I like your post. As a healthcare provider we can always assess for signs of abuse during our initial assessment with patients. Domestic violence can be an intimate partner violence or family violence. Sometimes women who have experienced physical abuse do not ask for direct help from a nurse. There are some barriers that hold them back when asking for help like fear of their own safety, shame, embarrassment, and denial. For a healthcare provider it is very important to include an abuse assessment screen during their assessment to look for signs like multiple injuries, minor laceration, pain, and some women will look nervous and act uncomfortable in the presence of the person who abuses them.

High blood pressure is a term that is used to define the condition the force of the blood is very high in relations to the flow against artery walls. A routine cardiovascular activity makes up one exercising activity that can be used in treating or reducing high blood pressure.is recommended at least 30 to 60 minutes daily. Further to this is the addition of the right kind of diet.Patient could

maintain a healthy weight, not smoking. Stop alcohol use. Low salt diet and high potassium diet.

High cholesterol levels, acts as a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease, which is the leading cause of heart attacks.To reduce these cholesterol levels in the blood, it is imperative to undertake regular cardiovascular activities, which helps reduce the levels of cholesterol in the blood.I would suggest patient, quit smoking, limit alcohol.get regular Physical activity.at least 30 minutes daily. Maintain healthy weight.Make healthy lifestyle changes.Check cholesterol levels regularly.

 According to research done on depression cases, exercising has been the top one contributors to low depression levels, showing it acts far much better than the conventional anti-depressants. I wold suggest patient, stress management. Encourage physical activity.Lifestyle changes,encourage Healthy eating,cognitive  behavior therapy,positive psychotherapy.

The delivery of health care in American is a daily concern for many people in America. With the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010 many uninsured Americans were able to receive  heath care that had not been an option before this law was passed. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention says ” The number of uninsured persons has declined in the past year. In 2015, 28.6 million persons of all ages (9.1%) were uninsured at the time of interview—7.4 million fewer persons than in 2014 (CDC, 2015)”. this law is on the table to be repelled or replaced by our government potentionly removing people who depend on it for life saving medical care. Americas health care delivery, finance, management and/or sustainability  system is influenced by the US government policy and continues to be a major issue of voters. The Kaiser Family Foundation states” President Donald Trump and Republican Congressional leaders have promised to repeal the 2010 health care law called the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare) and replace it with an alternative that has not yet been specified KFF.org, 2017).

 According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention“The social determinants of health are the circumstances in which people are born, grow up, live, work, and age, as well as the systems put in place to deal with illness.(CDC, 2016). These determinants are present factors in people living in low socioeconomic areas from receiving adequate medical with the ACA in place. In our previous discussion we learned that at risk and vulnerable populations are the elderly, children, working poor, disabled etc who do not seek medical care until the illness can no longer be ignored. Most of the uninsured are working families with children that don’t  qualify for government insurance programs because of the amount of limited income, young adults, ages 18-35 who are not interested, understand the value of health care or can’t afford coverage.(CDC,2015). Those who are have insurance may not seek preventative care because of high co pay, deductibles or co insurance which could keep people healthy, disease prevention or progression saving billions per year(CDC, 2013). i can not say who would be the best in management of the healthcare system, the government or medical professionals? Each would have to deal with the cost effective treatment related to taxes, neither will win because there will always be people on each side unhappy with the out come. I believe we as a nation will be able to sustain our health care system just by preventative care we can add $260 billion a year to our economy (CDC, 2013). Besides how much is a life worth when it is someone you love and care about? This should apply to all human beings no matter if a personal relationship exists. 

“The barriers the uninsured face means they are less likely to receive preventive care, are more likely to be hospitalized for conditions that could have been prevented, and are more likely to die in the hospital than those with insurance(CDC, 2013)”. We should love, give a helping hand and do the best we can to ensure everyone life has value.
