As a health professional it is important to be aware of, open to, and respectful of a patient’s cultural beliefs and practices. Cultural considerations that are important to remember while interviewing Ms. Li who is Asian American would be the incorporation of extended family, patient privacy, and Asian folk medicine and philosophies. Family is a major influence on the Asian American culture, many times family wishes are placed at higher priority than the patient themselves. The eldest male family member is usually the decision maker (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014). Family should be acknowledged and incorporated into the interview if the patient consents. Language barrier with the patient and family should be taken into consideration. If needed, a translator should be present during the interview to ensure effective communication. It is important to keep in mind that Ms. Li may perceive certain health topics to be private and may be reluctant to openly discussing it with a health care provider. If this is the case, assessment should be performed to the best ability while maintaining respect and ensuring that the patient is comfortable. Asian folk medicine and philosophies such as acupuncture, herbs, meditation, and massage are incorporated into health practices (Edelman et al., 2014). These all should be taken into consideration when caring for and developing a course of treatment for Ms. Li.

The Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) is a screening tool used by healthcare professionals to assess if a patient is experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This assessment screening allows for healthcare providers to revise and utilize as needed. The universal assessment can be translated into seven languages, allowing for it to be applied to a wide variety of patients. The assessment allows for providers to approach the topic at ease so the patient doesn’t believe they are being singled out. If the patient answers yes to any of the presented questions, a thorough assessment should be performed (Jarvis, C., 2016). If indeed abuse is discovered, protocol for your specific state and facility should be followed, and it should be reported to proper authorities. Maintaining the safety of the patient should take priority.

Data:  7 years old girl is diagnosed to ARTHROGRYPOSIS,  due to severe and untreatable bone deformity, after all treatment were unsuccesful, dr amputated both her legs from below the knees.

she had history of cleft soft palate surgery, and 2 years ago she got broken  right arm which both resolved. Her speaking wasn’t clear, i guess because of cleft palate surgery. she complains of pain  and nurse gave her pain med through IV push. The day I took care of her in my clinical day was second post up day. She wore diapers, and in last 36 hours didn’t have any bowel movement. Also she stated of having nausea and feel like she wants to vomit.She didn’t have appetite to eat, just drank water, milk , and small glass of apple juice.

Her medications: !-miralax     8.5 gr        2- Colace    50 mg oral      3-Ketrolac 9mg IV push

her vital signshe was normal for her condition and age. all her lab was normal, except RBC was alittle low.

She is attending public school, but  as a kid with special needs( second grade), due to her surgery she maybe couldn’t attend school for weeks. She has 10 years old healthy brother and one is on the way which all pregnancy test for her mom showed baby is healty. she likes to play, but can’t move that causes her frostration. After ampuation should be in bed rest or chair for a month , till her stumps heals and get prosthetic legs. Ofcourse her parents need lots of teaching how to take care of her, be aware of any sign and symptom of infection, proper diet due lack of mobility to prevent constipation. she caughed alittle but could be able to clear her secretion. her weigh is 16.6 kilos.

her assessment didn’t show any sign of cardiac problem, her respiratory rate was ok(20/ min) but caughs alittle, her IV sight was intact and IV sight was in her left hand, so i checked her right hand pulses. I connected to her well and played with her, she was so happy and her mom thanked me to cause her daughter feels better. That was all info.
