Students this project will allow you to formulate and hypothetically develop your own research project. The purpose of this project is for the student to complete an abstract submission to a specific nursing journal. The assignment must be strictly following APA guidelines, points will be deducted if otherwise (See Rubric).

An abstract is a concise summary of a larger project (a thesis, research report, performance, service project, etc.) that concisely describes the content and scope of the project and identifies the project’s objective, its methodology and its findings, conclusions, or intended results.

Abstract Outline:

Title of Project

-Problem Statement: what is the problem that needs fixing?

-Purpose of the Project

-Research Question(s)

-Hypothesis

-Methodology (Qualitative vs. Quantitative)

                -Steps in implementing your project

-Results (Pretend results)

-Conclusion

Follow the following guidelines:

1-Student will think about a problem in their nursing career that needs fixing (Example, Increase number of falls in delirious patients in ICU). 

2- Student will select a nursing journal (not medical journal, ex ANA) and review the abstract submission guidelines for that specific journal.

3- Paper: The paper will consist on three sections

1-Introduction: in which the student will reveal the selected journal and reasoning for selecting such journal. And a brief section on the submitting criteria for the journal (DO NOT PLAGARIZE).

2-Research steps: The student will follow the journal’s abstract guidelines and complete the abstract outline steps based on the hypothetically selected problem as above. If the selected journal does not require the steps highlighted, and then follow the highlighted steps.

3-Explain how your hypothetical project will impact the nursing career.

4-Follow APA format, meaning Title page, Abstract, Body and Reference page.

As a nurse leader, it is imperative that you communicate well and get along with those whose leadership style does not align with your preferences. It is also important to understand your own leadership style, as this can prompt insight into how others relate to you and what skills you may need to develop as your leadership responsibilities grow.

To prepare:

  • Review the information in the Learning Resources, including the leadership styles identified in Chapter 2 of the course text.
  • Bring to mind a leader in your organization or one with which you are familiar. Would you describe his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez-faire? Why?
  • Which characteristics or approaches demonstrated by this person would you integrate into your own leadership style? Which ones would you prefer not to integrate?
  • Think about how this leader’s style and resulting interactions may impact health care quality and patient outcomes.

By Day 3

Post a description of a leader, distinguishing his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez-faire. Describe the characteristics that inform your perception, and explain which ones you would integrate into your own leadership style, as well as which ones you would prefer not to integrate. Explain at least one potential effect of this leadership style on health care quality and patient outcomes.

Reengineering of health care is at the center of most health care institutions today. The concept entails putting in of the appropriate measures to ensure that it provides cost effective care, there is increased value in customer service as well as there is the reordering of priorities within the institution that will facilitate the achievements of goals and objectives.

 

            Nurse Managers play a crucial role in the health care organizations. Their primary function is to manage the nurses who offer services to the patients. Nurse leaders facilitate reengineering of health care in different ways. Firstly, they help in decision making. Appropriate decisions are vital in the reengineering of the health care. Nurse leaders recruit the member of the nursing staff and provide oversight. When doing this, they ought to follow ethical principles that guide their profession. They have to ensure that they adhere to the professional code of ethical to protect not only the rights of the patients but also those of the members of staff. A well-managed team of professionals will deliver expected services to the customers (Coonan, 2007).

 

            Secondly, they help in the implementation of the legal environment. The nurse managers stay up to date with the legal requirements of the nursing profession to ensure that they operate smoothly. The nurse leaders work with the families of the patients and also doctors to delivering health care services. While doing this, they have to operate within the laws that protect patients such as in issues of confidentiality and also those legislations that protect the professionals.

 

            Nurse leaders also support innovations in the organizations. For instance, they take part of discussion and implementations of any technologies that will help facilitate the provision of quality and fast services to patients and also make the work easy for the staff members (Larson, 2016).
