To do this, you will need to demarcate which text(s) of your chosen author you will be using for your project. — For instance, in the case of the lyric poets, the selections in your book typically represent all the work of theirs that is currently preserved — but you don’t even have to use all of it (for instance you could focus on one of Solon’s several poems, or a small handful of Archilochus’ short poems and fragments.) If you’re doing Homer for instance, you would not have to read all of the Iliad and Odyssey (though that would be great) — but you would need to have a strong command of what those books contain in summary, even though your analysis is focusing on a specific portion.
Also, you will need to support your answers to the questions above with quotations from the texts themselves, and accompanying analysis.
Lastly, and to make all this possible, you will need at three sources:
– 1 primary source (the text(s) you are writing about)
– 2 secondary sources (modern scholarly texts that discuss that same text, and provide contextualizing information about it). This must be a published, printed scholarly work (though it can be accessed online, and you can use the bibliography from sites like wikipedia to lead you to it)
