Topic: You should compare or contrast some aspect of two accounts of the same war (for example, the German versus the English experience in Junger and Sassoon). You should have four recent scholarly sources. Suggestions for topics will be given in the next few units.
The essay needs to have 2 memoirs (autobiographies) as sources. These autobiographies CANNOT be excerpts or pulled from the internet. They need to be in book form. Remember you are comparing two different perspectives of war, so you should be looking for autobiographies that depict the differences (or similarities) in the same war. (For example, you could use Testament of Youth and Storm of Steel and compare their WWI experience).
Format: The essay should be 4-6 pages of text, 12-point font, 1-inch margins all the way around, APA format
Please note the bibliographies found in class texts, particularly Reading Autobiography. Bibliographies and helpful websites will be posted in the Webliography. Beware of unreliable sources you might find on the web; also avoid mistaking articles from popular media (newspapers, news magazines) for scholarly work.
