Company Selection and Key Factors
Toyota Corporation
For those that may not be familiar, Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese company that operates in the automotive industry, with its headquarters located in Toyota, Japan. This multinational conglomerate deals with the production and sale of automotive vehicles. In 2012, this multinational company was ranked as the largest automobile corporation in the world, ahead of General Motors and Volkswagen. In February of 2016, based on its revenue, Toyota ranked as the 13th largest company in the world.
The company was established in 1937 by Kiichiro Toyoda and has since, grown into the multinational conglomerate that it is today. Toyota is a publicly traded company that trades its financial securities on the Tokyo, Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Nagoya stock market. In addition to its already impressive background, the company is listed on the New York Security Exchange market (Liker, Convis, 2011).
Overview of the Products
As mentioned earlier, the Toyota Motor Corporation operates in the automotive industry. For this reason, the company manufactures and sells a range of automotive, such as automobiles, commercial vehicles, luxury vehicles, engines, and hybrid electric vehicles, amongst others. Toyota also deals with the sale of marine products, spare parts, and other accessories, not to mention technical services, repairs, and replacements. To enhance customer satisfaction, as well as gain a competitive advantage, the company provides tailor-made products and services to its consumers. Toyota invests heavily in modifying its products, such as vehicles, so as to suit, meet, and exceed customers’ needs and preferences (Fleming, 2013).
Toyota Corporation’s target market entails medium and large-sized corporations. Moreover, the company also targets middle-class and high-class income households. I selected this company because Toyota is one of the leading and largest automotive manufacturers in the world. The company’s ability to gain a competitive advantage is the reason why it’s a market leader in its industry segment (TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION GLOBAL WEBSITE, 2017).
