Emotional awareness is something I have always struggled with and it is something I need to work on improving. As a person, I don’t think I am an emotional person and in fact it takes a lot for me to react emotionally in response to something. Topping it off with being a man and being emotional and in tune with your emotions is against the gender roles mentioned in the previous learning activity. Thinking back on previous experiences, not just mine but observations of other people, I believe a vast majority of men struggle with emotional awareness. Upbringing may be a cause for this, as men and women are expected to follow norms and guideline based on gender. I wonder why society hinders people in developing and attaining personal fulfillment using social norms as their preferred weapon of choice. Is it because insecurities, they’re not happy so you can’t be either? There are certainly people out there like that, I don’t think it’s the case for society as a whole. Is it due to ignorance? Society having created a vicious cycle that everyone keeps falling into unknowingly? Thoughts??
