An expository essay genre of writing that includes explaining, illustrating or explicating something in a way to make it clearer for readers. This could include an investigation, evaluation or even argumentation about an idea for clarification. The structure of an expository essay includes a clear concise, and defined thesis statement that occurs in the first paragraph of the essay (Scriebendi, n.d. com). When writing an expository essay we must also remember to be logical and clear so that our essay will be understood. Without logical progression of thought, the reader is unable to follow the essay’s argument, and the structure will collapse. (Purdue owl online writing lab n.d.) It also important to remember to write only the facts because the readers have no idea of our topic. There is no room for bias or opinion when writing an expository essay. (Scriebendi, n.d. com) You can always support your essays with definitions, statistics, quotations and charts and graphs to name a few. Be creative and try to leave a lasting impression when writing expository essays.
