Final reflection Assignment
Reflection is a vital part of developing as a writer. The reflective essay serves as your closing commentary on all the work you have done this term. It should be about two pages in length. Itâ€
s up to you how to organize and develop your reflective essay, but it should include an introduction, body and conclusion, and do the following
• Show how you have grown as a writer and researcher this term
• Discuss your writing this term in a reflective, meaningful and coherent manner • Use clear, specific examples of meeting the competencies for this course (as described in the course syllabus, i.e., critical thinking, writing process, research strategies, documentation, and academic English)
In addition to these required elements, you might also address any of the following questions that help provide evidence of your development or abilities as a writer and/or researcher:
• How did writing multiple drafts and reflecting on them affect your writing? Do you find writing as a process useful? Why or why not?
• What, if any, other new strategies or tips did you learn this term that were particularly useful?
• How has your rhetorical awareness increased through the term, and how has it affected you as a reader or writer?
• What do you consider to be your strengths as a writer? Your weaknesses?
• Which aspect of your writing is the strongest? Why? Which piece of writing that you did this term are you most proud of?
• How does each paper that you wrote this term reflect your ability and/or development?
• What issues did you face in doing research and documenting it in your essays? How did you deal with them?
• How has your use of technology changed or developed during the term?
• How has your work in this class influenced you academically or professionally?
• In what ways would you like to continue to grow as a writer and/or researcher?
Since this is a personal essay, there is no requirement to use any outside sources. Your paper should generally explain how you have met or approached these goals. You should also refer to the reflective notes youâ€ve written and collected through the term to give specific examples of how you have utilized the writing process, feedback, and reflection to improve your work, how you have changed as a writer and/or researcher, how you overcame challenges you faced, etc.
The reflective essay should express your individual voice and style and does not need to be as formal as the other essays you wrote for this course, but it is meant to be a polished text when you turn it in.
Grading The reflective essay counts for 10% of your course grade. It will be graded on a scale of 0-4 by the quality of your reflection as follows:

As you can see, to get a 2 or above, it is necessary to discuss your work in terms of the course competencies. The difference between a 2, 3, and 4 – between adequately, thoughtfully, and meaningfully reflecting on your development – is the degree to which you give good examples and contextualize this course in your personal, social, cultural, academic, and/or professional use of writing and research. For example, if you showed that a particular learning experience gave you a better idea how to support an argument, thatâ€s an adequate piece of reflection. If you also showed how that ability fits into your future path as a writer, scholar or professional, thatâ€s a more thoughtful reflection. If you furthermore showed how that ability affects your personal, social, or cultural identity, thatâ€s meaningful. Generally speaking, the ideal reflection will consider where you are as a learner, what youâ€ve learned, what that knowledge means, and what else you need to know and do moving forward.
Obviously, you are not a learner, but can use your imagination if you were considering all the papers and assignments you have done for me.
