Tuesdays with Morrie (pp. 1-40) Discussion Questions
- How would you describe Albom’s language in this story? How does his choice of language, words, or writing style have an impact on you as the reader? Do you like his writing style? Why or why not?
- Morrie tells Mitch, “…the culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. We’re teaching the wrong things†(35). What do you think about this? Do you think your culture makes you feel good about yourself? American culture? Explain.
- In the eyes of our society, Mitch is successful – he has a good job, he owns a house, he’s married…; however, there is something inside him that makes him feel like he’s NOT successful. When you’re 40 years old, what would your life need to be like to consider yourself to be “successful?â€
After you have written your initial post, read the posts your classmates have written. Then, respond to at least TWO of your classmates responses. These responses should identify something you liked about their response, but also contribute to the discussion by sharing additional information, or your own perspective, about the question.
*You won’t be able to read your classmates’ follow-up posts until after you have completed your initial post
