Goal One—(Present your argument) Explain which Presocratic philosopher (Heraclitus) you most agree with?1 Provide reasons or evidence for why this interpretation of the arche is best. For example, is it the closest to a contemporary scientific explanation of the cosmos? Or maybe you appreciate the creativity in their thought? Ultimately, reflect on what makes this metaphysical theory interesting to you. Goal Two—(Respond to your opposition) Next, raise an objection from another Presocratic thinker (Parmenides) and then defend your view against this attack. For example, if you are supporting Thales you might challenge his theory using Anaximander. You would then respond to Anaximander’s objections to defend Thales the best you can
