President Harry Truman made the decision to use the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. After reviewing the information in the module, determine what his motivations were. Was it to prevent more deaths? Was it to intimidate the Russians? What was the main motivation?
Since that time, the nuclear weapon has become more than a weapon. Be sure to read all of the required readings for this week, then respond to the following.
Is the nuclear bomb a military weapon, a political option, or more? Most weapons are under the command of the military, but the nuclear arsenal is under the control of the president. Why?
