This essay is worth 100 points based on the following components:

            Organization (introduction, thesis, paragraphs for points, conclusion)          30

            Content (follow directions, key points & supporting detail)                          30

            Execution (grammar, punctuation, spelling)                                                   20

            Documentation (in text citations and Works Cited)                                       20

 

Assignment:

Your assignment is to select one reason that answers the question, “Why should we study the past? ” Prepare a 750-1000 word essay in which you explain your reason and reasoning for studying the past.

 

Use at least three paintings/mosaics, sculptures, structures, inventions/developments, historical events/empires, or literature to illustrate your answer to the question. Be sure to draft a strong thesis that clearly states your answer to the question . There is no need to state the question. You may not use a work that we have or will study in class, but you may use a related work. For instance, the Justinian and Theodora mosaics are off limits, but other mosaics of the period are acceptable. Refer to your study guides for chapters 11 and 12 to identify the works that we will study at the end of the course.
