Thus far in class weâ€
ve learned about many interesting topics in governmental and not-for-profit accounting. Itâ€s time to dive deeper into one of the topics with this assignment. In 5-8 pages (12-pt type, double-spaced) please choose your favorite topic that we are covering in this class and write a research paper on that topic (in addition, see note below). You need a minimum of three references for this research paper. Remember to include a reference page, which is included in the page count. Here are some suggestions of what you could write about:
1. Introduction to governmental accounting 2. Accounting development and classification; factors that have a significant influence on accounting development 3. GASB Codification 4. Comparative accounting – regulation and enforcement, similarities and differences between government-wide financial statements and fund statements 5. Reporting and disclosure – select three different reporting and disclosure issues and study to increase your understanding of these areas 6. You can select topics from any chapter that we covered during this class
Be creative! If you donâ€t like one of the above topics, please pick your own. If you canâ€t think of one, email your professor for some suggestions.

In addition to computational accuracy, critical thinking, professionalism, communication, and presentation weigh heavily in the evaluation of the assignment. Remember – this must be in your own words and you must support your work.
