Part two
Student one:
Okay, I must admit, this course is getting more interesting…. Do I use emoticons with my SMS texting? Absolutely! Especially, when I am having a casual conversation with my friends. Typing word to word could look weird (smiles). My husband, on the other hand, is a complete opposite. Two days ago, I had to tell him what LOL stands for. Haha!
When it comes to email or professional conversations, I stay away from using acronyms/abbreviations or emoticons. My 5 most used emoticons are FYI, LOL, QQ, BRB and ASAP. This is what an emoticon for a confused face looks like on iPhone
These are the 20 phrases in SMS language and its English translation, I can think of.
ROFL = Rolling On Floor Laughing.
AKA = Also Known As
LOL = Laugh Out Loud
OMG = Oh My God or Goodness
IDK = I Don’t Know
BTW = By The Way
FYI = For Your Information
QQ = Quick Question
LMFAO = Laughing My Freaking Ass Off.
SMH = Shaking My Head.
NVM = Never Mind.
IKR = I Know Right.
BRB = Be Right Back
ACK = Acknowledge
LMK = Let Me Know.
ILY = I Love You.
YOLO = You Only Live Once.
OFC = Of Course.
ASAP = As Soon As Possible

Student two:
This is certainly an interesting topic for this week. It really has prompted me to think about the type of communication that I am using everyday. I found that I started to scan some of my text messages in order to see exactly which acronyms I use daily. Here are some SMS language acronyms that I either use daily or found to be funny / mildly entertaining.
CYA – Cover Your Ass
RTM or RTFM – Read The Manual
CODE9 – Parent / Guardian Approaching
WTPA – Where the Party At?
IDC – I Don’t Care
CYE – Check Your Email
AIAMU – And I’m a Monkey’s Uncle
FISH – First In, Still Here
CWOT – Complete Waste of Time
DIC – Drunk In Charge
GAB – Getting a Beer
IJ- Inside Joke
IJPMP – I Just Pissed My Pants
LOL – Laugh Out Loud
NM -Not Much or Nevermind
WTF – What the F***
IDK – I Don’t Know
BTW – By the Way
RGR – Roger That (both ways)
The five that I think I use the most are BTW, RGR, WTF, NM, and LOL. I had to reflect a little regarding whether or not I used emoticons. The answer is “Mostly Not” I have used : ) and : P a few times, but I rarely use them, mainly because I never had any interest in learning the keyboard alphanumeric combinations for them. Instead I use Apple’s ever growing collection of hilarious .GIF pictures to capture emotions that I would like to portray. I think that more often than not I will send : ) at the end of an email to certain people that I know personally, but I rarely use emoticons for the aforementioned reasons. I have no idea what the emoticon for confused is… I would guess ?:| OK, BRB. Going to go and look it up… And we are back, and it is not what I thought. The emoticon for confused is : $
