Italy is both a loyal ally of the Western Alliance (US, UK, France, Germany) and an independent actor on the international stage. The West’s approach to Russia, the Arab World, and internal (European Union) relations have each matured since the end of the 1st Republic (1980s).
a-What aspects of Italian foreign policy make it different than other Western powers?
b-How has domestic politics in Italy been affected by international forces? Have these effects been positive or negative?
c-Why have the foreign policy preferences of Italy and Italians changed over the past few years?
